Jan Knewtson - 25 Years of Service
1991 – 2016
Secretary/Treasurer 8 years
One big big thank you to Jan Knewtson who retired from the ICT board after 25 years of tireless service. The extent of her contributions is considerable. She directed at least eight productions, some of which she wrote or compiled. Jan also served as musical director of 26 or more productions. She didn’t stop there. In addition to eight years as the Community Theatre treasurer she sold tickets in her store and often served as producer and caterer for ICT presentations. Let’s not forget to thank her husband Richard who frequently assisted Jan in schlepping musical instruments and stuff.
Dee Sell - 33 Year of Service
1978 – 2011
President 2009 – 2011
In 2011 Dee Sell resigned from the Iola Community Theatre Board after 33 years of service. He continues to maintain the ICT website at www.iolacommunitytheatre.org . (It’s worth checking out. The current production and audition dates can be found there as well a history section with many photographs from past productions and virtually every printed program going back to 1965) Though Dee appeared on stage only once or twice and probably in non-speaking roles, his contribution to the theatre was immense. He directed a half dozen plays including big productions such as Camelot. Dee’s photographs of every ICT production continue to appear on the website.
Richard Spencer - 35 Years of Service
1980 - 2016 (1995 absent)
President 2011-2016
ICT lost a real giant when Richard Spencer left the Theatre Board in June 2016. During his 35 years on the Board, Richard directed 36 ICT plays that we know of and quite possibly more. There is hardly a Community Theatre production that he did not touch in some truly significant way. It might have been in the design and construction of sets, lights, sound, and special effects. He certainly knows theatre. Richard was the Theatre’s president for the last five years of his tenure.
