X-WR-CALDESC:Iola High School's Drama Department presents OUR TOWN\, a play
by Thorton Wilder. \n\n$5.00 General Admission (USD 257 Students FREE)\n
\nOur Town (1938) is a three-act play by American playwright Thornton Wild
er. It tells the story of the fictional American small town of Grover's Co
rners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens.\n
\nAct 1 presents an ordinary day in 1901.\n\nAct 2 starts three years late
r\, after childhood friends George and Emily have fallen in love and inten
d to marry.\n\nAct 3\, taking place in 1913\, is retrospective and philoso
phical. Birth\, life and death flow on in Grovers Corners\, like water on
a river\, always moving but the river stays the same or changes ever so sl
owly. We are shown images that tell us Emily has died after giving birth t
o her second child\, and of her funeral. During and after her funeral\, he
r ghost converses with other ghosts of dead persons in the Grovers Corners
cemetery.\n\nProduced by special arrangement with Samuel French\, Inc.
