Crossroads: Change in Rural America Exhibit

A statewide initiative featuring the exclusive Kansas tour of a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition brought to you by Humanities Kansas.

When attending the Bowlus for public events, you will be asked to read the Bowlus terms and safety protocols for entering the venue. By entering the doors of the Bowlus, you are accepting the terms. Protocols and terms will be posted outside of all entrances and will be kept up to date on the website. 


Allen County: Trails to Rails to Highways and Back

A collaboration by the Allen County Historical Society, Bowlus Fine Arts Center, Thrive Allen County, Iola Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Bowlus and the Iola Register.  


Panel Discussion

Please join a moderated panel discussion with Allen County's historians, as we explore the oral history and gain insights into the soul and heartbeat of our community.


Rail to Trail Conversation 

When: September 26, 2020

Time:   9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Where: Lehigh Portland Trails Eastern Trail Head, Iola, Kansas 

Inviting outdoor enthusiasts to join our volunteers on the trails around Iola, where conversations of how our rails were turned to trails and the future plans to continue bringing interest and use of the trails. 


Crossroads: Change in Rural America is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and State Humanities Councils nationwide. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress.

  • The Iola Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism is housed inside our building on the office level on the east side. It can be accessed through the east entrance.
