What We Do

Mary L. Martin Gallery

Featured Artist: Laura Spencer

Come and meet Laura at her Artist Reception on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 6 PM-7 PM in Art Gallery.

Laura Spencer is a woodburner and an artist who enjoys watercolor, graphite, acrylic, and creating digitally. She graduated from UNC School of the Arts in 2018 and hopped across the pond South of London to obtain her Master’s in 3D Animation from Bournemouth University. When returning to America, COVID hit and twisted her path. She found herself dusting off her woodburner while in North Carolina and started selling her pieces at various mountain art shows. She then moved to Emporia, Kansas to date her now husband and transitioned from burning mountainscapes to painting prairies.

Ten months ago she was filling her time working remotely by creating digital illustrations for Eaton Worldwide Business and Penny Prima® alongside art commissions and new pieces for a local gallery in Emporia, KS and Etsy. Now her nine month old, Boaz, takes full priority and art is squeezed in during nap times unless a sourdough bake needs some stretches and folds. Her and her husband, David, are passionate about their garden, cooking homemade meals, being outside with their dog, Ember, and doing home improvement projects. They love being new parents and are excited to see what each new day brings, always hoping it ends with either popcorn or kefir ice cream with a Seinfeld.
